This article is about the racing stadium. For the event in Cars: The Videogame, see Motor Speedway of the South (event).
Motor Speedway of the South
Greater location Motor City, United States

The Motor Speedway of the South is a racing stadium located in Motor City, United States, and is a location often used for races in the Piston Cup Racing Series. It is where the Dinoco 400 was held during the 2005 season. In the 2016 season, the race was renamed the Dinoco Light 350 as the Dinoco 400 was moved to the Copper Canyon Speedway. Races at the stadium may take place during either the day or night, and the track is surrounded by a plethora of lights so the track is lit during races at night. I-40 is the interstate that it likely merges onto under the speedway. Under the speedway, the traffic can be congested after events as it was congested after the Dinoco 400. Due to this there are two roadways on the same merging section going the same direction to get onto the highway.

History

Cars

Cars exiting the Motor Speedway of the South after the Dinoco 400.

In Cars, the Motor Speedway of the South is the location of the 2005 Dinoco 400 which is the final race of that year's season. The race had a few highlights, including a large-scale accident involving thirty-one competitors, and two simultaneous tire blowouts from Lightning McQueen. The most notable occurrence, however, was the first three-way tie in Piston Cup history, between McQueen, The King and Chick Hicks.

In the film, the interior of the speedway contains a number of sponsor tents, such as the Rust-eze tent. There is also a large grassy field where caravans can watch the race from, as well as a large pit row of nineteen pit crews lining one of the track's straightaways. As the 2005 Dinoco 400 took place at night, the track was well-lit.

Cars: The Videogame

The speedway in Cars: The Videogame.

In Cars: The Videogame, the second Piston Cup race of the 2006 season is held at the Motor Speedway of the South. The track that appears in the game is nearly identical to its Cars design with the major difference is that the track layout is more Indy style rather than how it is in the movie. This is probably because Palm Mile Speedway already has a traditional oval like shape so Motor Speedway of the South got changed to an Indy shape for more variety. Lightning McQueen places first, with the other top five competitors including Chick Hicks, Hollister, Lee Jr., and Suregrip.

The player unlocks the Motor Speedway of the South event in the game's story mode and arcade mode after the player places within the top three positions in Sarge's Off-Road Challenge in the story mode.

Cars Toons

In Mater the Greater, Mater performs some of his stunts in the interior of the track at the Motor Speedway of the South. Among his stunts are jumping over a line of rusty cars, jumping through a ring of fire, and jumping from a diving board into a kiddie pool.

In Monster Truck Mater, the Monster Truck Wrestling World Championship is held at the speedway.

In Heavy Metal Mater, Mater and the Gas-Caps perform live in concert at the stadium.

Motor Speedway of the South
Type Piston Cup Race
Location The World of Cars Online
Required 1,000,000 racing points, Finish Petroleum City Super Speedway
Reward Motor Speedway of the South Trophy
Unlocks Los Angeles International Speedway

Motor Speedway of the South was the 5th circuit of the Piston Cup series in The World of Cars Online. The circuit opened in May 27, 2011. The player needed 1,000,000 racing points to unlock it, and the Petroleum City Super Speedway Trophy to compete.

This track had a new Pit Stop addition, if you pull into the Pitstop on Laps 3 and 6, you'll get nice free Boost. If you lose count of the laps, you could just use the Pitstop if the Green Light is on. Pulling into the Pitstop in Red Light made you slower.

Winning the race gives the player the Motor Speedway of the South Trophy and unlocks the last Piston Cup track, Los Angeles International Speedway.

The Motor Speedway of the South later appears in Cars 3, where it is the location of the Dinoco Light 350, this time in the 2016 season.[1] The race is among the many that Jackson Storm wins throughout the season, as well as when six more next-generation rookies make their debut, following six veterans being fired. Unlike the 2005 Dinoco 400, the 2016 Dinoco Light 350 takes place during the day, rather than at night.
