History

Cars

RM and Larry at the Motor Speedway of the South.

In Cars, R.M. and Larry are seen among other caravans at the Motor Speedway of the South. While there, RM says "You got that right, slick!" to Larry and whistles. Later, they appear when Lightning McQueen spins into the infield after he was hit by Chick Hicks. RM whistles again as McQueen then returns to the track.

RM and Larry also attend at the Los Angeles International Speedway, where they are seen next to Albert Hinkey. When the crowd notices Doc Hudson, RM tells Larry to dip himself in axle grease and call him Slick.

Cars 2: The Video Game

In Cars 2: The Video Game, Doug and Larry are seen watching the Radiator Springs races.

His story:
"Larry and "R.M." are the best of friends: these two can usually be found raising Cain and takin' names on Redneck Hill. But despite their rowdy nature, they are true southern gentlemen, and dead serious when it comes to racing. They know the stats on every team, which is useful since they've always got a bet riding on who will be the next Piston Cup champion."

Trivia

  • RM's line "Well, dip me in axle grease and call me Slick!" is a joke on the old Harold Lloyd punch line "Step right up and call me speedy!" This is mostly originated in his hit silent film, The Freshman. Lloyd also made another film called Speedy, which may or may not have been a reference, as it was made three years after The Freshman.
  • RM's first name, Doug, is a reference to Douglas Keever, the self-appointed mayor of Redneck Hill at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, who also voiced the character in the first Cars movie.
