Rusty Manifold is a 1950s racecar and journalist of Rearview Mirror. In Cars 2, his name is seen on a newspaper during The Mel Dorado Show. Reb Meeker was commemorating Rusty in the Thomasville Racing Legends diecast series, confirming he raced in the Piston Cup, sponsored by Gasprin.

History

Cars 2

In Cars 2, sometime after his racing career, Rusty Manifold became a reporter and journalist. He would report on the disappearance of Miles Axlerod.

Cars 3

In Cars 3, Rusty Manifold would make his physical appearance during the archive recording of the 1954 Fireball Beach race. He was one of the many competitors the Hudson Hornet would pass on track. Eventually Rusty and several other racers would come to a stop due to the Hudson Hornet wrecking out.

Throughout the events of the film it is revealed that Rusty wrote two articles on Doc Hudson and Lightning McQueen's accomplishments in the Piston Cup Racing Series.

Physical description

Judging by the tribute scheme by Reb Meeker, Rusty's paint scheme in the Piston Cup consisted of white and red. With him racing with the number 36 painted in red on his doors.
