In Cars, Ponchy competes in the 2005 Piston Cup final at the Motor Speedway of the South. During the race, Chick Hicks causes an accident in an attempt to further his lead on Lightning McQueen, which Ponchy is involved in, and is seen hitting Ruby Oaks. Although Ponchy receives some minor cosmetic damage, he is able to continue racing, but loses to a three-way tie between McQueen, Chick, and Strip Weathers. Ponchy returns in Cars 3.  After the Los Angeles 500, he gets fired by Bumper Save and gets replaced a next-gen racer named Paul Conrev.

  • Official bio
    • "Ponchy was working as a stunt-double on a movie about a pair of wise-cracking California Highway Patrol officers called "HighJinx," when he was spotted and recruited to be a professional race car. Ponchy's gone from the big screen to the little screen, but at least it involves a lot less intentional crashing."[1]

Trivia

  • Despite die-cast releases of the Cars 3 Bumper Save racer coming with the name "Ponchy Wipeout", this racer is notably different from Ponchy Wipeout himself, such as being shorter, having a higher roof and different headlight stickers.
  • Racing #90 also includes Rusty Dipstick.
