- "Hey, Mack, still can't get the words right?"
- —Gray, The Rookie
Gray is Strip Weathers' hauler and a member of the Dinoco racing team. Because of his large size, Gray anticipated being a cargo hauler, but he did not expect to eventually become The King's transporter. Gray is also a longtime friend of Mack, who he once helped by securing a Piston Cup sponsorship for Lightning McQueen.
History
Cars
In Cars, Gray transports Strip Weathers to the Dinoco 400 at the Motor Speedway of the South, where Weathers finishes in a three-way tie with Lightning McQueen and Chick Hicks. A tie-breaker race is set to be held at the Los Angeles International Speedway, which Gray transports Strip to. After the race is done and Tex Dinoco offers McQueen the Dinoco sponsorship, Gray gives McQueen a welcoming smile while he is contemplating his decision, though he politely declines.
The Rookie
Gray has a supporting role in the comic The Rookie. After meeting Lightning McQueen, Mack offers to transport the rookie racer to the Motor Speedway of the South, where his longtime friend, Gray, can help McQueen earn a place in a Piston Cup test session and secure a sponsorship. McQueen initially takes interest in the Dinoco sponsorship, but because Strip Weathers is already the brand's face, Gray instead tries to introduce him to the Hostile Takeover Bank team members, who laugh at them. Finally, Gray and Lightning meet with Rusty and Dusty Rust-eze, who are able to give Lightning the opportunity he needs.
