He can be seen on the wall with [[Eugene Carbureski]] for most shots and sometime during that, he collided with [[Haul Inngas]] and [[Billy Oilchanger]]. However, he did not receive any serious injuries and was able to continue racing, restarting the race in 11th. He finished towards the back, just behind [[Ernie Gearson]], although these 2 can not be seen when the final lap is announced.

Before Cars

Before the events of Cars, James joined the Vitoline racing team in about 1985.

In Cars, James competes in Dinoco 400 race at the the Motor Speedway of the South, Motor City, United States, which was the final race of the Piston Cup season. James had been in the middle of the pack for pretty much the whole race. However, halfway through the race, an accident occurred between almost all of the competitors which was caused by Chick Hicks. During the crash James was seen colliding with Kevin Shiftright and Rusty Cornfuel, although this is an animation error, as previously Murray Clutchburn was in the previous scene, but got mistakenly replaced by James. He can be seen on the wall with Eugene Carbureski for most shots and sometime during that, he collided with Haul Inngas and Billy Oilchanger.
