James Cleanair is a former Piston Cup racer that competed for the Vitoline racing team.
History
Before Cars
Before the events of Cars, James joined the Vitoline racing team in about 1985.
Cars
In Cars, James competes in Dinoco 400 race at the the Motor Speedway of the South, Motor City, United States, which was the final race of the Piston Cup season. James had been in the middle of the pack for pretty much the whole race. However, halfway through the race, an accident occurred between almost all of the competitors which was caused by Chick Hicks. During the crash James was seen colliding with Kevin Shiftright and Rusty Cornfuel, although this is an animation error, as previously Murray Clutchburn was in the previous scene, but got mistakenly replaced by James. He can be seen on the wall with Eugene Carbureski for most shots and sometime during that, he collided with Haul Inngas and Billy Oilchanger. However, he did not receive any serious injuries and was able to continue racing, restarting the race in 11th. Somewhere between the events of Cars and Cars 3, James most likely retired from the Piston Cup and was replaced by Brick Yardley in 2007, who would later be replaced by Chase Racelott in October 2016.
