*In several Cars and Cars 2 interviews, John Lasseter said that [[Tow Mater]] IS really Joe Ranft. Joe rubbed off his loving, funny sweet personality on one of his favorite characters, Tow Mater. "I mentioned one of the key visual characteristics of Mater, the tow truck voiced by Larry The Cable Guy in the Cars films. "Mater's teeth are modeled on those fake Billy Bob hillbilly teeth Joe used to wear, right?" I said, referring to a set of fake teeth Ranft used to wear as props when checking into hotels or going out to dinner at fancy restaurants." Lasseter nodded. "Yeah, I gave him those. We had a lot of fun, Joe and I." "When he put in those fake teeth, he truly became this other hillbilly character. He could do great impressions of hillbillies. He did the voice scratches of Tow Mater on the storyboards before we found Larry the Cable Guy to do the real voice". Lasseter said. Joe IS TOW MATER, just the nicest guy that you ever met. The pure personality and heart of Mater is truly Joe Ranft.
