The Haunted Hook is a mythical creature from a Swedish folk story. According to legend, he is a ruthless monster built from rusted metal and equipped with an old rusted hook. He lives in the desert and is scared of lights.
In Cars: Mater-National Championship, Lightning McQueen learns about the Haunted Hook when he meets Gudmund in Ornament Valley. Gudmund believes in the story and uses the bright lights on his roof in an attempt to scare off the creature. He later mistakes Mater for the Hook and drives away quickly.
