H.J. competes in the late 2016 and 2017 Piston Cup season in ''[[Cars 3]]''. He is one of six next-generation rookies who debut at the [[Motor Speedway of the South]], the other five being [[Tim Treadless]], [[Ryan Laney]], [[Ed Truncan]], [[Aaron Clocker]], and [[Harvey Rodcap]]. He replaces Parker Brakeston as the N2O Cola racer and proves to be a very good opponent. He's seen finishing near the Top 3 in races, including 4th at the [[Grandol Oil Co. Raceway]] and 7th at the [[Los Angeles 500]]. At the [[Florida 500]], he starts in fourth position and stays in the Top 10 for the entire race. Unlike other racers, he wasn't involved in the wreck caused by [[Cam Spinner]]. He manages to finish the race in 4th place.
