Cal Weathers is a professional race car who competes in the Piston Cup Racing Series. The nephew of seven-time Piston Cup champion Strip "The King" Weathers, Cal grew up watching his uncle tear up the track, and he became the Dinoco racer following his uncle's retirement.[1]
Cal has a make model resembling a traditional NASCAR design, and his racing number is 42. He has a Dinoco blue paint scheme, similar to his uncle's.
History
In Cars 3, Weathers competes in the 2017 Piston Cup season alongside several other stock cars, such as Bobby Swift and Lightning McQueen. However, he is outmatched by new next-generation rookies such as rookie sensation Jackson Storm. Wary of the young generation, he does not share McQueen's desire to improve enough to beat them.[2] At the end of the film, after Cruz Ramirez wins the Florida 500, she is offered the Dinoco sponsorship. Ramirez accepts the offer, replacing Cal as the Dinoco racer.[3]
Throughout the 2017 season, Strip Weathers acts as Cal's crew chief.[1]
