In Cars 3, Ed makes his Piston Cup debut in the middle of the 2016 season, after Mood Springs fires and replaces their previous racer, Dud Throttleman, with Ed, who is more physically capable. Along with Harvey Rodcap, H.J. Hollis, Aaron Clocker, Ryan Laney and Tim Treadless, he debuts at the Motor Speedway of the South in the middle of the 2016 season, triggering a new generation of racers.
