Lightning McQueen first met Philip when he was driving on the wrong side of the road towards him. Lightning swerved out of the way. He went back to tell Philip that he was on the wrong side of the road. Philip apologizes and says that he's from England, and still not used to American roads (as the UK drives on the left side of the road, not the right). Then he realizes that the car he was talking to was Lightning McQueen. Lightning decides to help Philip to drive on the right side of the road, but Philip thought he was going to be taught how to race. Fred arrives and hears about the "race," and wants to join. Then, when Doc Hudson arrived, Philip was excited to see him, because he knew he was the Fabulous Hudson Hornet. Doc explained that Philip should calm down, or he will break down, and then he will have to fix him. Then Barry arrives, hearing about the "race," and Lightning decides to have a race after all. All 5 cars went to line up at the starting line. The race was called Radiator Springs Circuit.
In Cars: Mater-National Championship, Philip first appears in the cutscene for Radiator Springs Circuit. Lightning is casually driving down Main Street in Radiator Springs when he nearly crashes into another car. When Lightning asks the traveler why he was driving on the wrong side of the road, the car introduces himself as Philip, and explains that he is from England, where the road directions are the opposite from the United States. Philip is ecstatic when he realizes he is speaking to famous race car Lightning McQueen, and when Doc Hudson drives up to scold them for blocking the road, Philip excitedly recognizes him as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

He also appeared in Inside the Turkey and Canyon Run, and he is your opponent in level 5 of Doc and the Law's Race 'n' Chase. He and Yuri are the only two cars in the game that are new to the game, but not playable.

Lightning offers Philip driving lessons, which he mistakes for an invitation to private racing lessons. Fred overhears and excitedly drives up, requesting inclusion. Barry also arrives and asks if a race is starting soon, and although Doc is hesitant at first, the five agree to a race around Radiator Springs.

When Lightning asks the traveler why he was driving on the wrong side of the road, the car introduces himself as Philip, and explains that he is from England, where the road directions are the opposite from the United States.

Philip later competes in the Road Races Inside the Turkey and Canyon Run. He is also the opponent in the fifth level of Doc and the Law's Race 'n' Chase, where his goal is in front of the entrance to Radiator Springs.

Concept art of Philip can also be purchased with Bonus Points in the Bonus Content section of the main menu.
