In 2016, in the midseason, with the rise of popularity of high-tech [[next-generation]] series of race cars, that had better achievements on the tracks, he stopped competing in Piston Cup and got replaced by SynerG with [[Eric Braker]].

Cars 3

In Cars 3, Lane Locke competes in the 2016 Piston Cup season with fellow veterans of the sport. However, when Jackson Storm makes his debut many stock cars are replaced by Next-Generation racers. The Next-Gens prove themselves to have better performances and speed on the tracks. As such, Lane was forced to stop competing in the Piston Cup and got replaced with Eric Braker at the Heartland Motor Speedway for the Bumper Save Gears and Glory 450.
