Special Paint Schemes

  1. Mac iCar's iTunes Paint Scheme (2006 Detroit 400 at Michigan) - After Steve Jobs saw the immense popularity of the iPod and iTunes, he decided to take it to another level. The iCar agreed to run a special paint scheme at the 2006 Detroit 400, and it went over quite well with the fans! But that's another story...
  2. Buck Braker's American Flag Paint Scheme (1971 Zero Cal N20 Cola 400 at Florida) - Buck Braker got a special paint scheme to celebrate the 4th of July in the United States, as instead of using his normal black and white paint scheme, he used a scheme with the American Flag.
  3. To be continued

Racers That Retired Way Too Soon! (less than 5 years)

  1. Norman "Nalf" Boina #184 (LenderMaster Bang) - He only raced in the 2006 Transberry Juice 400.
  2. Clint Driveby #91 (Oiljuice) - Clint, a green 1954 Ford with a black top, was a very bad performer, having a career-ending crash in the 1956 Transberry Juice 400.

History of the Piston Cup

1946 Piston Cup Season

In 1946, a person founded a stock car racing company named the Piston Cup. So far, John Oaks of Easy Idle #57 won the 1946 Piston Cup.

1947 Piston Cup Season

The 2nd Piston Cup Season. This one is best known for having the Piston Cup's first foregin champion, Ya Chun Fei of Japan. His sponsor is Japanese Noodles #16.

1948 Piston Cup Season

A rookie named Slide Powers is the only known racer of 1948 along with Jay Roper, Ricardo Albany, Sammy Strikebreaker, Daniel Parkson, and many others. Daniel Parkson won the 1948 Piston Cup. Nothing much except that. There were 20 racers in the season. There is also a racer named Steven Pitstop who was the #94 racer before Louise Nash stole the number. His brother Jacob used the #20. Slide would retire in 1980.

1949 Piston Cup Season

The 2nd edition of the Piston Cup in 1949 was also boring and nothing much from the season happens as AGAIN Slide, Daniel, Sammy, Ricardo, Jay and the other 1948 rookies, as well as a few new rookies, are the only known racers. This time Jay Roper wins the Piston Cup.

1950 Piston Cup Season

The 1950 Piston Cup was quite interesting. Why? Multiple racers like Rusty Dipstick, Randy Lawson, Kurt Shiftright, Samuel Conrev, among others make their debut. Slide Powers still races in this season. In that season, Thomasville was opened and so is Fireball Beach. Samuel Conrev won the season with Kurt Shiftright quite close in second place.

1951 Piston Cup Season

The 1951 Piston Cup was a really well known season. Four hotshot rookies make their debut here. The 4 racers that debut are Doc Hudson (the Hudson Hornet), Junior "Midnight" Moon, Louise "Barnstormer" Nash and River Scott. The 27 cars compete and compete but hotshot rookie Doc Hudson takes the win. Louise "Barnstormer" Nash wins 3 races in a row in this season as well, while Doc Hudson wins 13 races. On August 26, 1951, the Daytona Beach race was pretty well known, due to the fact that Doc Hudson became known as "The Piston Cup's Fastest Racer" due to overtaking the entire since spinning on the first lap putting him in last and then overtaking everyone else on the final lap to win.

1952 Piston Cup Season

Race fans, before this explication of the 1952 Piston Cup Season, there were 42 races in 1952. Currently, there are 36. Anyway, let's begin! The 1952 Piston Cup was a very interesting and well known one, because Doc Hudson wins the Piston Cup TWICE IN A ROW AND BROKE A RECORD OF MOST WINS IN A SINGLE SEASON!!! He won 27 races out of 42 (at the time. Will be 36 starting in 2020). The only races he did not win were only 9 meaning he won the Florida 500 as well, and also the legendary Triple Crown (in which you have to win the Brickyard 400, Talladega 500 and Florida 500). Doc was the fastest car during his winning streak until he wasn't at Thomasville. A very historic moment happened on the final lap of the Thomasville race when Doc was competing against a mysterious rookie sensation by the name of LeRoy Heming, nicknamed as "The Rookie" by Smokey. Lightning McQueen would earn that nickname in 2005. LeRoy slammed Doc, but Doc did not hit the wall, unless he wanted to. Speaking of which Doc did touch the wall, flip on top of LeRoy and win the race as the pitty (old flag waver of the fifties) waves the checkered flag. Nothing much about Louise "Barnstormer" Nash, Junior "Midnight" Moon and River Scott, except Louise won one of her 38 race wins.

1953 Piston Cup Season

The iconic 1953 Piston Cup Season WAS historic. But WHY? The Hudson Hornet won THREE PISTON CUPS IN A ROW meaning he is considered one of the best legends in Piston Cup history. This means the Hudson Hornet wins the 1953 Piston Cup. Also, he was still winning against LeRoy Heming back then.

1954 Piston Cup Season

After three Piston Cups in a row won by Doc Hudson, he would have won his fourth but one thing happened that stopped his career, and it happened at Fireball Beach on June 20, 1954, proving that Rusty Dipstick, Randy Lawson, Morris Axler and Samuel Conrev raced in 1954. The commentator says "The #6 and #12 cars are still fighting for the lead!" until Doc passes the other racers. He drifts and takes the lead. Doc would have won his fourth Piston Cup if he won this race and the other races, but all of a sudden, he sort of slips, ejects on the ground as if he was crashing and did crash and rolls over an incredible number of times. It got so bad that the pitty had to wave the red flag to warn the other racers. The ambulances also came because it was so bad. Doc was on the ground and the commentator says "Hopefully this race today wasn't his last.", but it WAS his last race and was out for the season. Doc only won 16 races and his rival Sammy Studebaker won the Piston Cup. Earl Grease debuted on June 27, 1954 at the N20 Cola 600.

1955 Piston Cup Season

Nothing interesting for this season, except Doc Hudson crashed the previous year and was out for the season. Doc won 3 cups, but Strip Weathers would break the record in the 1990s. Junior "Midnight" Moon, River Scott and LeRoy Heming did very well. Meanwhile, Kurt Shiftright wins the Piston Cup in the year 1955. And ever since this year, Jet Robinson was finishing 7th in the final standings, until his retirement in 1970. What happened to Louise "Barnstormer" Nash, though? She retired in the season because she was lonely without Doc. She was then replaced by someone who would eventually become LeRoy Heming's next opponent. Who is it? Figure it out in 1956!

1956 Piston Cup Season

A rookie sensation Chevy Bel Air named Buck Braker debuts and competes against LeRoy Heming. LeRoy had a new opponent that year after Doc's career-ending crash in 1954. Junior "Midnight" Moon and River Scott are not near the Piston Cup title due to a technological disadvantage due to the fact Braker and Heming are more advanced cars with faster speeds and most likely younger. Slim Hood also looks different with a new color scheme and the number 42. LeRoy and Buck won almost every race in 1956 except only 7, but at the season ending Dinoco 400, Buck Braker won the race and the Piston Cup.

1957 Piston Cup Season

The 1957 Piston Cup Season is Round 2 of LeRoy Heming VS Buck Braker. Slim Hood makes his final season. Buck won the 1957 Dinoco 400 and the 1957 Piston Cup Championship. Slim then retired and got replaced by someone. Figure out who in the 1958 Season!

1958 Piston Cup Season

The 1958 Piston Cup Season took place in the 10th anniversary of the Piston Cup. It was well known because... LeRoy Heming had to compete YET AGAIN with Buck Braker? NO! A rookie is coming and that is none other than the guy who replaced Slim Hood! It's... LEE WEATHERS! LeRoy, Buck and Lee were racing in 36 different races. But at the end... ROOKIE LEE WEATHERS WINS THE PISTON CUP!!!!

1959 Piston Cup Season

The 1959 Piston Cup Season was well known by several fans, because Lee Weathers won the Piston Cup again! Lee won the inaugural California 500 at Los Angeles International Speedway. LeRoy Heming was quite close to winning placing 2nd in the final standings and Buck Braker is 3rd. River Scott and Junior Moon race real hard BUT Kurt Shiftright was missing. But why, and will he get found? Figure it out on later Piston Cup seasons! In the meantime, Michael Topspin is the Clutch Aid racer.

1960 Piston Cup Season

The 1960 Piston Cup Season was well known by most fans as they thought LeRoy Heming and Buck Braker both failed to win and Lee Weathers, the father of Strip and great uncle of Cal, wins the Piston Cup. WRONG! Rookie racer Mario Andretti wins with a record of races won almost as Doc Hudson's in 1952! Mario won 21 races against LeRoy, Buck, and Lee, and he also wins the legendary Triple Crown. Now there are 43 racers still with 36 races, and there are new tracks that are bigger (though not as big as Talladega). But seriously... WHERE IS SHIFTRIGHT!?!?!?!? Kurt is missing for two years! Will he still be missing in future seasons? We'll see about that.

1961 Piston Cup Season

Do you remember River Scott and Junior Moon? One of them is going to be important this season. But still, WHERE IS KURT SHIFTRIGHT? Also, Purolator #21 Drive Parkerson debuts this season. Who's going to win the 1961 Piston Cup? LeRoy Heming? Buck Braker? Mario Andretti? Lee Weathers? ALL FOUR ARE WRONG!!! And no, it isn't even Kurt Shiftright either! Besides, HE'S STILL MISSING SINCE 1959!!!! And the winner is actually JUNIOR MIDNIGHT MOON FOR SOME REASON!!!!!! The others, well they were okay but very close. LeRoy Heming also had a terrible crash at Georgia Super Speedway in which he flipped over and caught fire in the crash and that is why Re-Volting (LeRoy's sponsor) was important and became a big deal now.

1962 Piston Cup Season

In this season, LeRoy Heming recovered from his terrible Georgia Super Speedway crash and is back! And he will race all season. But in this season at the Data Shift 400, Buck Braker crashes and goes into the catch fence. On the other hand, Lee Weathers did very well this season and so does Mario Andretti. The three main racers compete for the top spot. But seriously, WHERE IS KURT SHIFTRIGHT!?!?!?!? He hasn't been in the series since 1959! But other than that, LeRoy Heming won the Piston Cup for the first time.

1963 Piston Cup Season

A three-way tie between LeRoy Heming, Buck Braker (recovering from his crash in 1962), and Lee Weathers. At LA, LeRoy won the race and his second Piston Cup. Kurt Shiftright is also missing and not in this season. Will he be found? Figure it out in 1964!

1964 Piston Cup Season

Kurt Shiftright FINALLY found after 5 years of being missing! He wanted to retire after getting found but decided to get an extra year of racing before retiring. His son Kraig then debuted that year for Spare Mint #12 in place of Maxwell Turner. River Scott did pretty well that year, but Buck Braker was too unworthy this season. But what happened to LeRoy Heming though? Mario Andretti is runner-up and almost won the championship and Dinoco 400 as he gets beaten by Lee Weathers! Lee won his third Piston Cup in 1964.

1965 Piston Cup Season

In 1964, we finally had Kurt Shiftright not missing anymore, but he sadly retires in the meantime. Drive Parkerson, who debuted as a rookie in 1961, was unfamiliar with crowds due to not performing well, but now he DOES perform well and he comes 2nd place this season! Eventually, Drive became a racing legend. Kraig Shiftright does perfectly fine this season making the top 5 once more in the 3rd place. Meanwhile, he is pretty sad that his father Kurt retired. LeRoy Heming does nothing much at all finishing 12th, but what about Lee Weathers? He is surprisingly not winning the Piston Cup, finishing 4th, but you know who won that year? Buck Braker winning his third cup this year!

1966 Piston Cup Season

Drive Parkerson, the runner-up of the 1965 Season, almost breaks Doc's record for most wins of 27 wins in 1952 by winning 26 races as well as the legendary Triple Crown, and he never was below the Top 3 in any race at all. He has beaten other legends as well (they didn't matter besides), and of course, he wins the Piston Cup! LeRoy Heming is runner-up, Lee Weathers is 3rd, Kraig Shiftright is 4th, and Junior Moon is 5th. Speaking of Junior, he retires sadly enough this year. What about Buck Braker? Well, he just finishes 10th for no reason. A good season for him as he is in the Top 10, but not as good as the other seasons. And don't forget Mario Andretti in 6th, Jet Robinson in 7th, Mitch Gears in 8th, and Joe Axel in 9th.

1967 Piston Cup Season

The only important racers are Drive Parkerson, Kraig Shiftright, Mario Andretti (Florida 500 winner since his real-life counterpart won the Daytona 500 that year), Lee Weathers and Buck Braker. What about LeRoy Heming? Well, he was just 6th. Meanwhile, Lee and Drive won 20 races each as they were neck to neck for the Piston Cup. Lee Weathers won 21 races while Drive won the 2nd last race, the Trunk Fresh 301 at New Hampshire Speedway. In the final race, the Dinoco 400, Lee edged over Drive by 2.9 millimeters to win the Piston Cup a fourth time in 1967. Kraig was 3rd, Mario 4th, and Buck 5th. Meanwhile, a very bad season for Henry McBrake, gone missing for 13 races after a bad crash in the Shiny Wax 200 at Austin Speedway, which was won by Drive Parkerson.

1968 Piston Cup Season

The 20th Anniversary of the Piston Cup happened in 1968. WHAT THE!? There's something EXTREEEEEMELY bad on the other hand! LeRoy Heming and Lee Weathers had a deadly crash in the Rustbelt race. LeRoy flipped over once while Lee flips over 8 times and caught fire. AND DEBRIS WAS PRETTY MUCH EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! Meanwhile, Lee was then out and then he sadly retired. Meanwhile, Mario Andretti placed 2nd, but Drive Parkerson wins his 2nd Piston Cup! Meanwhile, Kraig Shiftright was 3rd. LeRoy was then on the 18th place in the final standings. But seriously, WHY IS HENRY MCBRAKE GONE MISSING SOMETIMES IN THESE SEASONS AFTER HIS 1967 AUSTIN CRASH!? Well, we might figure it out soon! Poor Lee, though. He'll be missed as a Piston Cup racer within our hearts.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vuHN8o6I48 - Footage of the 1968 Rocky Hill 400, race #2 in 1968. That was Lee Weathers' final win in his career before his career-ending crash in the Rustbelt race.

1969 Piston Cup Season

This is a very boring season. Drive Parkerson won 26 races and only ever 26! Like in 1966, he almost broke Doc's record for most wins in a single season. He also won his second Legendary Triple Crown and his third Piston Cup. Runner-up Kraig Shiftright won two races, while LeRoy Heming, Buck Braker, Mario Andretti, Thomas Tanrev, Martin Superliner, Richie Panch, Morris Axler, and Jet Robinson only won one. Drive Parkerson never came outside of the Top 3 in any race this season and does extremely well like in 1966. LeRoy is 3rd, Buck 4th, Mario 5th, and Thomas 6th. Martin Superliner does very well placing 7th in the final standings and winning the Tach-O-Mint 150 (now TripleDent 150) at Rocky Mountain Hill Speedway by 1.8 CENTIMETERS OVER PUROLATOR #21 DRIVE PARKERSON! Another bad season for Henry McBrake, gone missing in some races again. The two races Kraig won were the N20 Cola 600 at Charlotte Springs and the Vitoline 300 at Tailgator. Richie Panch makes his only season before being fired and replaced by who? Is it a legend? YES! But which one? Find out in 1970!

1970 Piston Cup Season

Hello race fans and welcome to the 1970 Piston Cup Season! This is a new generation of the Piston Cup, though older 1950's and 1960's racers like Drive Parkerson and Buck Braker race in 1970. This is also a Deja Vu season. As you all know, Lee Weathers retired after his almost fatal crash in 1968, so Richie Panch raced for Dinoco in 1969. Richie only won the 1969 RPM/Easy Idle 300 by overtaking Drive Parkerson and 16 others to win the race. Strip Weathers, Lee's son and also known as The King, debuts this year after Richie was fired by Dinoco. Drive Parkerson dominates in the early stages of the season, but LeRoy Heming tried to push Drive in the California 500, but LeRoy failed and Drive won. Buck Braker and Kraig Shiftright try to dominate the series, BUT we have a huge load of things going on here. Sadly, Mario Andretti was doing VERY bad in the early stages of the season, but he slips up to win the Octane Gain 300 at MSTOS, which was race 11. Most of the season, the Top 5 is dominated by Drive, Buck, LeRoy, Mario and Strip. It went insanely Deja Vu after Buck and LeRoy, the 1956-1957 fighters, crash in the No Stall 200 at Talladega, thus leading Morris Axler into fifth. Luckily, before the season ended, Buck recovered to his crash and is back and comes back fifth from Morris. The Top 10 in 1970 was the following. Slide Powers is 10th, Henry McBrake (who is full-time FINALLY) is 9th, 8th is Morris Axler, 7th is Jet Robinson (OF COURSE! But sadly, he retires this year), 6th is LeRoy Heming, 5th is Buck Braker, 4th is Kraig Shiftright, 3rd is Mario Andretti, 2nd is Strip Weathers, and the winner of the 1970 Piston Cup is... of course... DRIVE PARKERSON!!!! If something could've gone wrong with Drive and Strip, Mario would've won the Piston Cup in the year 1970. This is one of the most interesting seasons of them all for sure, because of the fact that it's a Deja Vu Season!

1971 Piston Cup Season

Robinson has retired and was replaced by the one and only Thomas Tireson. However, that's another story. Drive Parkerson won the first 10 races in 1971. He could have won the Piston Cup in the year 1971, but one thing happened that stopped it. While he was leading in the Octane Gain 300, race 11, he was pushed by Earl Grease and Drive went airborne and flipped over 7 times. Drive had time to recover in 1972. This causes Strip Weathers, Cole Speedland, and others to dominate him. Drive was upset after his crash. He wanted to win his 5th Piston Cup in 1971! Speedland won a few races like the Leak Less 150. But Strip Weathers almost won the Triple Crown by placing 2nd in the Florida 500, and by winning the Talladega 500 and the Brickyard 400. Strip Weathers wins the 1971 Piston Cup Season, like his real life counterpart Richard Petty winning the 1971 NASCAR Winston Cup title.

1972 Piston Cup Season

Hello, race fans to the 1972 Piston Cup Season! Here, Cole Speedland wins the Florida 500 in just his second try in the race. Sammy Studebaker retired in the year 1972. Strip Weathers, Drive Parkerson, and Kraig Shiftright finish in the Top 3 in most races. But what about LeRoy Heming? Well, he gets the treatment again! In 1952, Doc made a trick by jumping on top of him, but in 1972, Drive does the trick over, again, LeRoy. Drive wins the last 10 races IN A ROW against Kraig Shiftright. Mario Andretti was in 2nd place, Kraig was 3rd, Strip was 4th, and Buck Braker was 5th. And, of course, Drive Parkerson wins the Piston Cup!

1973 Piston Cup Season

In 1973, Drive Parkerson dominates by winning the Florida 500. But Kraig Shiftright won the next 5 races, but then the two were overtaken by Mario Andretti. Andretti won the remainder of the first 10 races. Kraig had a new crew chief besides! KURT SHIFTRIGHT!!!!!! Meanwhile, Strip "The King" Weathers and Cole Speedland were also doing good. Top 10 in 1973 were: Thomas Tanrev in 10th, rookie Bill Brady in 9th, Dylan Screamerson (who replaced Sammy Studebaker in 1973) in 8th, in 7th place Buck Braker (NOT Robinson!), in 6th place Cole Speedland because he swapped later on, 5th place Mario Andretti, 4th place Kraig Shiftright, 3rd place LeRoy Heming, 2nd place Strip Weathers, and again, Drive Parkerson wins the Piston Cup! But THREE legends retired in the 1973 Piston Cup Season! River Scott, Buck Braker, and LeRoy Heming. They were then replaced by Darrell Cartrip, Tom Landis, and Martin Power.

1974 Piston Cup Season

Hello, race fans to one of the WORST Piston Cup Seasons in history, by the nickname of "2nd Deja Vu Season". Only THREE racers matter. Drive Parkerson, Cole Speedland, and The King (Strip Weathers). Here, Drive Parkerson was close to winning the Florida 500, but instead, Strip Weathers won. Drive then won the next two races. However, things start to go Deja Vu like crazy. In the 14th race, Drive Parkerson crashed. He returned without missing race in the 15th race, but crashed alongside Kraig Shiftright. This leads him to be out of the season, but he actually came back in the 1975 Piston Cup Season. Meanwhile, in 1974, Kraig returned in the 25th race, but Drive, Kraig, Strip, and Cole did not win the 1974 Piston Cup. And, of course, this thus leads Mario Andretti to win the 1974 Piston Cup. It was 13 winless cups between 1961 and 1973, but Mario won his 2nd Piston Cup after 13 years of not winning the Piston Cup again.

1975 Piston Cup Season

Hello, race fans, it's 1975 and welcome to the 1975 Piston Cup Season. As you all know, Buck Braker retired in the year 1973. Two years later, Easy Idle hired Buck's son Buddy. Ronald Oaks retired because of this. Buddy actually won the Florida 500 in just his first Piston Cup start! It marked a huge upset for the crowd, including for the Brakers theirselves. Cole Speedland was so angry that Buddy won the Florida 500. Cole wanted to win his 2nd Florida 500, his first being in 1972. "The King" Strip Weathers and Drive Parkerson came 2nd and 3rd in the Florida 500 while Cole took the 4th place in that race. Drive Parkerson and Team Purolator were so cocky, meanwhile, because they would want to win their 7th Piston Cup within the next 10 races after the Great American Race (you know, the Florida 500). Buddy Braker was so close to becoming one of a few rookies to win the Piston Cup, but instead, Kraig Shiftright wins the Piston Cup in the year 1975, his first ever Piston Cup. He would win two more Piston Cups in the years of 1978 and 1979 (although 1979 could probably be a chance that it would be won by The King, although #KA Bullets hasn't confirmed it yet). All the other racers that were not important, did not win any races. Only the ones mentioned in this season won at least one single race. Kraig actually won the 2nd race as well. Benny Pitstops actually does pretty well coming in a surprise 3rd place.

1976 Piston Cup Season

It's 1976 and welcome to the 1976 Piston Cup Season. At the Florida 500, Strip Weathers was going to win until he crashed by flipping over once, thus meaning Buddy Braker wins the Florida 500, his 2nd Florida 500 victory. Strip surprisingly returned in the next race. Buddy wins the first 10 races, meaning he's extremely good that year. Bill Racelott debuts in 1976. Kraig Shiftright was on his way to win the championship title, but instead, Buddy Braker wins his first Piston Cup in just his second year of racing. Kraig Shiftright comes in 2nd, Bill Racelott in 3rd, Strip Weathers in 4th, Cole Speedland in 5th, Mario Andretti in 6th, Cale Yarblowgh 7th, Benny Pitstops 8th, Neil Brakett 9th, and Drive "Mr. Cocky" Parkerson 10th.

1977 Piston Cup Season

Hello race fans to the Florida 500. Mario Andretti won the pole for this race. Meanwhile, a bad thing happened. Drive Parkerson crashes Bill Racelott in the race. Race winner was Strip Weathers. Drive was cocky because he didn't win the 500. So he wrecked Cole Speedland in the 2nd race and Neil Brakett was involved in that accident. He would wreck many more racers in the next races. Darrell Cartrip and Kraig Shiftright won 20 races combined. At the final race, Buddy Braker won the pole. But there was an intense lead battle between many racers including Cartrip, Shiftright, Weathers, Braker, and a couple more, excluding Drive Parkerson. But at the end, Kraig Shiftright wins the Piston Cup. Pretty interesting if you ask me.

1978 Piston Cup Season

Hello race fans to the 1978 Piston Cup Season. Cale Yarblowgh wins the Florida 500, the 1st race of the season. Drive Parkerson causes more chaos this season at the 2nd. Neil Brakett avoids the crash that time and WINS the 2nd race. But things start to get interesting! Bill Racelott wins the 3rd race, Mario Andretti wins the 4th race, Strip Weathers wins the next two, Kraig Shiftright then wins the next three, Cale Yarblowgh wins the 10th race, and Bill Racelott wins the 11th race. Then, Buddy Braker wins the next 6 races, but WHO will win the Cup? Cale Yarblowgh is 10 points ahead from 2nd place Bill Racelott. Kraig Shiftright would overtake the two to win the 23rd race. And he'd win the next FOURTEEN races of the season. Strip Weathers doesn't win the Piston Cup, nor Buddy Braker! But CALE YARBLOWGH WINS THE PISTON CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Drive Parkerson doesn't even come in the Top 15. He came 16th behind some other unknown racers, like Harold Axel, Jonathan Melter, and Kelly Pistoncar.

1979 Piston Cup Season

Hello race fans to the 1979 Piston Cup Season. Cale Yarblowgh decided to change his sponsor to Oil Juice, so that Andrew Axler can become the Nitroade racer. His brother and backup racer Andy, would also debut. And also, two very important rookies, Dale Earnhardt of Lightyear #3 and Kraig Shiftright's son and ex-Clutch Aid racer Klint Shiftright #121 (his son Kevin was also Clutch Aid #121 racer), also debut this season. Darrell Cartrip starts on the pole for the Florida 500 and leads most of the race, including the first few laps. In that race, he wrecks infamous Purolator racer Drive Parkerson. Mario Andretti would win his 2nd Florida 500, his first being in 1967. Strip Weathers came 2nd, Darrell Cartrip came 3rd, and A.J. Foytrip came 4th. Meanwhile, Donnie Drafterson and Cale Yarblowgh FIGHT after they both crashed on the final lap. Donnie also is part of the Alabama Gang along with his brother Bobby and Neil Brakett. Bobby Drafterson has a son named Davey, who would race from 1987 until his death in 1993 in a helicopter crash. Another part of the Drafterson family, Clifford Drafterson, was also a racer. Clifford raced in CARCA part-time. Klint Shiftright wins the final Thomasville 400, which is the 4th race. His father Kraig Shiftright, now with Intel as sponsor since Ernie Gearson debuted in 1978, is very angry to see his son win, so he wins the next two races in a row (5th and 6th races). Out of nowhere in the Vitoline 350 at the MSOTS (the other MSOTS race aside from the Dinoco 400), the 7th race of the season, Bill Brady would win. Neil Brakett would win the 8th race after that. Buddy Braker then wins the 9th and 10th races, followed by Dale Earnhardt winning the 11th and 12th races. Then, Strip Weathers wins races 13 and 14, and next is Cole Speedland winning the 15th race. In the second half of the season, things start to get interesting. Bill Racelott, Jonathan Melter, Don Chapcar, ect., excluding Andrew Axler. In the final race, Klint Shiftright wins the pole and leads the first lap and most of the race, but Strip Weathers wins the race with Bill Racelott in 2nd. But we have a huge surprise! Bill Brady WINS the 1979 Piston Cup by only 20 points! Some people think "What about Re-Volting? Oh and Benny Pitstops too!". Well, Benny Pitstops crashed badly in the 10th race, BUT HE SURVIVED UNINJURED AND ACTUALLY RETURNED IN THE 11TH RACE BY MASSIVE SURPRISE!!!!! However, he does poorly was even wrecked by Alloy Wilson in the Sludgee 400 at Florida. Slide Powers, who still races after 31 years!, actually does poorly placing 21st. In 22nd, was Alex Quint. Quint would then become Fiber Fuel racer in 1983 with Thomas Tanrev becoming Oxnard secondary racer aside from Brad "Maverick" Gonzalez #12.
