This is a script of the cutscenes from the storyline of Cars: The Videogame (GBA).

Story Mode

Press Start

[Scene: Radiator Springs]

• Lightning: Zzzzz......Zzzzz....
• Lightning: Wha... Downshift... Checkered flag...
• Sally: Lightning! Wake up!
• Lightning: Wh- what? Did I win?
• Sally: I think you were dreaming.
• Lightning: Oh... yeah. I was dreaming about a race.
• Sally: You know, I kinda figured that.
• Lightning: No, it wasn't any ordinary race. It was the Radiator Springs Grand Prix, and you were in it, and Doc, and Mater was the announcer -
• Sally: You know what that sounds like to me?
• Lightning: What?
• Sally: Sounds like you're ready for some competition.
• Lightning: Oh, you got that right.
• Sally: Well, today's a great day for it. Doc's looking for you, he wants you to meet him out at Willys Butte later.
• Lightning: Wow, sounds like I'd better get busy!

Doc's Challenge

[Scene: Willy's Butte]

• Lightning: Hi, Doc. What's all the fuss?
• Doc: Let's see how you handle these back roads. You and me.
• Lightning: What, me? Racing the Fabulous Hudson Hornet?
• Doc: Nope, you racing your Crew Chief. Let's go.

After Doc's Challenge

[Scene: Willy's Butte]

• Lightning: How's that? Okay?
• Doc: Ah, that's okay, but you're hanging it out too much, too early on the throttle.
• Doc: Hey! You listening to me?
• Lightning: Chick's up on the Butte. What's he doing here?
• Doc: Checking out the competition.
• Lightning: Yeah, must be nervous.
• Doc: No, just smart.
• Lightning: Hmm. You think I should do the same thing to him?
• Lightning: Go to his town, hide out and watch him practice?
• Doc: Enough. If you raced as well as you run your mouth, you'd have that Piston Cup already. Just don't worry about him, you've got plenty of work to do.
• Doc: I'm sure you'll be seeing each other soon.

King's Challenge

[Scene: Ornament Valley]

• Lightning: King! Long time no see, buddy!
• King: Hey Lightning, thanks again for what you did last year.
• King: You're a good sport and a true race car.
• Lightning: Tell that to Chick. That guy just keeps hassling me.
• King: Well let me tell you, I know a few tricks that Chick never dreamed of.
• King: What say we lay down some tracks, and I'll show you what I've got.
• Lightning: After you!

After King's Challenge

• Lightning: Whew! You sure do know how to handle yourself on these back roads.
• King: You're not so bad yourself, son. You just keep your head in the race, and you won't have any trouble beating Chick Hicks.
• Lightning: Chick seems to bring his own brand of trouble to the race.
• King: Ain't that the truth.

Radiator Cap Circuit

[Scene: Ornament Valley]

• Mater: Hehe. This is gonna be fun.
• Lightning: It'll be a drive in the park.
• Doc: This is it. Stay focused and you'll be fine.
• Lightning: My middle name is 'Focus', Doc.
• Mater: Shoot, I didn't know you had a middle name.
• Lightning: Well, I don't really have a middle name...I...Doc, you explain it to him.
• Lightning: It's showtime...
• Mater: Lightnin' Focus McQueen. Now, that there's a darn purty name.

Chick's Challenge

[Scene: Mesa Ravine]

• Lightning: Hey, Chickster, what're you doing out here, man?
• Chick: Thought I might try out a few things I've learned.
• Lightning: Aww, you went back to school? Good for you, Chick.
• Lightning: Maybe you'll even graduate this time. Education is so important.
• Chick: Hey. Mr. Edumicated. You ready to get schooled?

After Chick's Challenge

[Scene: Mesa Ravine]

• Lightning: I forgot to tell you, Chick, the roads out here aren't like the tracks you and I are used to. No, they got these things called... right turns.
• Chick: Right turns. So what?! Wasn't a real race anyway.
• Chick: Nobody was here to see it, or watch us, nobody was there, like a - you know, if a tree falls in the forest and nobody, you know, doesn't get heard, does anybody see it? Or you know, hear it?
• Lightning: Oh that's right, I forgot. You like losing in front of a crowd.
• Lightning: See you at the stadium.

Palm Mile Speedway

[Scene: Palm Mile Speedway]

• Chick: Lightning.
• Lightning: Ah, hello, Chick.
• Chick: Check it out, I just got my tail lights replaced.
• Lightning: So? Big deal.
• Chick: Well, you know, I just figured you might like to get acquainted with the view.
• Chick: Know what I mean? You know, 'cause you're gonna be spending a lot of time behind me... in the race? We're gonna be in the race and I'll be ahead of you and you'll be behind me... In the race! The tail lights? Is it me?
• Chick: Is it, what are we not getting here?!
• Lightning: You are so driven, Chick, I love that about you.
• Doc: Hey you. Back to your pit. Stop buggin' my driver. You ready, Lightning?
• Doc: Remember, Lightning, this is a Piston Cup race. Don't forget to draft your opponents!
• Doc: To draft, tuck in behind another car to build up your draft meter, and then move to the side and press R for a burst of speed!

Ornament Valley Circuit

[Scene: Ornament Valley]

• Lightning: Beautiful day for a race, eh Chick?
• Chick: The only beautiful thing about it will be watching you limp across the finish line from the winner's circle.
• Lightning: Wow. I'm glad to see those anger management sessions are really starting to pay off there, Chickster.
• Chick: Lookey here, smart guy. You gonna talk, or are you gonna race?
• Lightning: If I have to talk to you, I gotta go with 'race'.

Motor Speedway of the South

[Scene: Motor Speedway of the South]

• Lightning: Alright Mack, we got a race to get to!

Tailfin Pass Circuit

[Scene: Ornament Valley]

• Chick: If you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best.
• Lightning: Keep trying Chick, and maybe someday you will. But not today...
• Chick: C'mon, tough guy, let's do this, right here, right now!
• Lightning: Okay, no problem. Watch out for the Cactus.

Sun Valley International Raceway

[Scene: Sun Valley International Raceway]

• Lightning: Ready when you are, buddy!
• Mack: Cross-country Mack has got your back!

Radiator Springs Grand Prix

[Scene: Ornament Valley]

• Mater: Hey, what's that red light flashin' in there for?
• Darrell: It means you're live on camera.
• Mater: I'm on the TV?! Wooo-hoo!! I gotta call the relatives!
• Darrell: Okay, lean back son, so we can start this thing.
• Mater: Oops, sorry.
• Darrell: Welcome to the charmin' little town of Radiator Springs -
• Mater: My hometown.
• Darrell: - for the first annual Radiator Springs Grand Prix.
• Darrell: Expect some wide-open, off-road action today as the rivalry between Lightning McQueen and Chick Hicks really heats up!
• Mater: He's the ugly green car with the mustache, right?
• Darrell: And the cars are lining up at the starting line now -
• Mater: Boy, this here is gonna be some kinda fun.
• Darrell: Okay folks, let's go racing!

Los Angeles International Speedway

[Scene: Los Angeles International Speedway]

• Lightning: Hey. What's the matter?
• Mack: Aw, you know. End of the season. I'm gonna miss this, that's all.
• Lightning: Ah, c'mon, Mack. You know that a champion has to go back the following season to defend his trophy, right? We've got plenty more road to travel together.
• Darrell: We're here at Los Angeles International Speedway for the final race of the Piston Cup!
• Darrell: Folks, there may be a full track out there, but tonight, it all comes down to two cars: Chick Hicks and Lightning McQueen! It doesn't get any better than this!

After Los Angeles International Speedway

[Scene: Los Angeles International Speedway]

• Doc: You be careful out there, son.
• Lightning: Aw, come on, Doc. I'm a veteran of the road now! A seasoned traveller!
• Doc: You still don't have headlights.
• Sally: Don't you worry, Doc. I'll take care of him.
• Mater: And if he gets stuck again -
• Lightning: I'm not gonna get stuck.
• Mater: Well if you do, you know I'll be there to help you out.
• Lightning: Thanks, Mater.
• Mater: So uh, where we gonna go anyway?
• Lightning: Wherever the road takes us, I guess. It's a pretty big country.
• Sally: Oh, I almost forgot - did you pack your trophy?
• Lightning: Nah.
• Sally: Where is it?
• Lightning: Don't worry-- it's in a good place.
