The 2008-2010 script of Cars 2 is an early version of the film that featured deleted characters such as Zil and Giulia as well as deleted scenes such as Prague and Meet Finn. Although it was completed in script, the film was overhauled in 2010 in favour of the existing version of Cars 2.

Plot

Not much is known about the original plot. The film would've had 5 races, occurring in Japan, Porto Corsa, Paris, the Black Forest (Germany) and London, in that order.

The story would begin with the Prague deleted scene, where Agent Healey would be chased by the lemons while requesting backup from British intelligence. The chase would lead to a junkyard, where Healey would attempt to hide, only to be captured by the lemons and put into a car compactor. Zil then asks Healey: "Where is Finn McMissile" to which Healey responds that Zil will never catch him and Finn will stop them. Unfazed, Zil chuckles and responds that they shall see as Healey gets crushed by the compactor.

This would be immediately followed by the Tall Tale deleted scene, showing the opening credits while McQueen races in the 2008 Dinoco 400, the final race of the season for the Piston Cup. McQueen is doing well until suddenly, clown pities come onto the track, covering McQueen in makeup while preparing to throw a pie in his face. Fortunately, Mater manages to tow McQueen away from the pities, avoiding the pie, Mater then notes that they're being chased by ninjas. McQueen urges Mater to speed up, to which Mater agrees, as they need more speed for the loop of death, which leads to the finish line, he then then hurls McQueen towards the loop of death as he fights the ninjas. In the end, McQueen completes the loop of death and crosses the finish line with great speed. After this, it's revealed that these events were being recounted by Mater to a group of fans in Radiator Springs' racing museum, only for McQueen to jump in afterwards, remarking that he "didn't even win that race", but Mater thinks he's an animatronic on display.

It's unknown how McQueen got involved in the WGP in this version of the story, though given we still see elements of a rivalry between McQueen and Francesco, it's entirely possible that he got involved the same way as in the existing movie, with Mater calling into Mel Dorado's talk show to defend McQueen and McQueen stepping in to defend Mater.

Trivia

  • Agent Healey's death scene in Prague mirrors Leland Turbo's death in the opening of Cars 2
  • Only Zil's silhouette is visible in Prague, this was to keep his appearance ambiguous, as it would be revealed later in the story
  • In Tall Tale, Mater's role fighting ninjas and clown pities as a "troubleshooter" foreshadows his role as a spy later in the film
