The Upper Mine is the eighth Road Race in Cars: Mater-National Championship.

Course layout

Upon starting the race, players take a 180-degree left turn, and then drive through a mine shaft, with rolling mine carts serving as obstacles, and will slow the racer down if contact is made with one. Once the racers exit, they will drive along a very bump straightaway, and then take another 180-degree left turn, which leads to a curvy path. The road leads into an abandoned town, with many different paths that the racers may take, and then uphill, into another mine shaft. Once out, the competitors drive around many turns along the mountain, and back to the finish line.

In story mode, the player's vehicle is Lightning, and the opposing racers include Tia, Vince, Barry, and Snot Rod.

Shortcuts

After taking the second 180-degree left turn, if the player clings to the left wall, they can drive along a very narrow dirt path, which leads into a bridge with multiple holes in it. Falling into one will land the player down into a longcut.

Additionally, right after driving through the abandoned town, the player can drive into an alternate path by turning left at a certain point on the uphill road. This leads into a small tunnel, with a stack of wood blocking the path, although it can easily be broken by simply driving through it.

Trivia

  • This track is not connected with any explorable area, and because of this, it is unclear exactly where this event takes place. This happened because unlike the rest of the tracks, this one overlays the original Tailfin Pass scene, as you can see here.
  • The walls at the start of the bridge shortcut have no collision. If you drive through them you could either drive on invisible ground or fall into the void.
