(Note, I am still working on fleshing out this page/project for now)

This project seeks to reorganize and reinvent the way we cover the 1:55 Scale Die-Cast Cars toys. This discussion started when Carslikesninjago brought up the issue of whether we should have die-cast images on each character's page (and which ones, at that), which then necessitated a larger discussion about how best to handle information about them in general.

The die-cast line presents an interesting challenge for us as a Cars wiki, as the toy line is very complex - like Hot Wheels, the line is highly collectible and each model has many different versions (i.e. series and variants), quirks, and whatnot that could and should be documented. However, doing so takes up a significant amount of page space and interrupts the presentation of info about the character in the actual Cars series itself. After realizing both at the same time is unlikely to be feasible, a look at the Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki inspired the idea of using sub-pages, created at [character name]/Merchandise, where merchandise info could be separately tracked using its own designated page structure. Similarly to Wookieepedia, we could implement a tabber system to allow people to easily navigate between both "versions" of the page.

Goals

  1. Create a tabber template for character and merchandise info
  2. Split the die-cast info pages into each officially designated poster/series year (see the navigation templates for a list)
    1. Combine each year's main lists and gallery into one page
    2. Split the existing 2015, 2016, and 2017 galleries into their own pages
    3. Split the 2022, 2023, and 2024 die-cast lines into their own pages
  3. List these on the main 1:55 Scale Die-Cast page
  4. Update each year's die-cast list using the new table organizer
    1. For the Themes series (2013-2019), add each model's series number (1/6 etc.)

Scope

  • The main 1:55 Scale Die-Cast page itself
  • All series articles listed in the 1:55 Scale Die-Casts navigation template
  • New sub-page articles for all characters that have one or more die-cast models; in the future, these sub-pages should be expanded to include info about other merchandise lines

Guidelines
