This one of the many openings for Cars 2 that was cut.

It starts of showing a bunch of fans heading towards the racing stadium then soon transitions to parody the race from the first movie. McQueen could been seen swiftly passing other racers however two end up blocking him preventing him to pass. Despite this, McQueen jumps on top of the two cars with one yelling at him to get off of him. Bob Cutlass states that McQueen pulled off an amazing move and has taken over first place as the race heads into the final lap of the Dinoco 400. Darrell states that McQueen really wants his third Piston Cup. A clown car stock car soon arrives on the track catching up to McQueen with his response being "What? Who's this clown?" After he says that, it's revealed that the clown car is a bunch of clown pitties and they start to mess with McQueen as he tries to race. Darrell states that the last thing a racer wants to see is clown pitties and questions why they're allowed on the track and claims to not find them funny. Mater soon saves McQueen from crashing into a pie allowing the clown pitties to crash into it instead. Mater is shown flying through the air carrying McQueen mimicking the jump McQueen did from the first movie. Both make it back onto the track with McQueen claiming in excitement that he's glad to see him and also says that he saved his life. Mater however states that he hasn't as he mentions ninjas with McQueen asking "ninjas?" Ninjas soon appear on the track and throw blades at McQueen and Mater. McQueen screams and begs for Mater to speed up after being threatened with Mater knowing stating that they need more speed for the Loop of Death with McQueen questioning it as well. Mater tells McQueen that he'll stop the ninjas and tells him to go win the Piston Cup. Mater soon counts down to three with McQueen telling him to wait but it's too late for McQueen as Mater soon flings him off his hook sending McQueen at ridiculous speeds leaving flames behind him. Mater comes to a stop and shouts that nobody can try to kill his bestfriend as his swings around his tow hook and fights off the ninjas. McQueen is shown upside down still going through the loop, setting it on fire in the process. McQueen soon blasts through the speedway and sets the track and checkered flag on fire as pictures are taken. Jets fly through the air in celebration as cheering is heard. When the story ends, Mater is shown looking proud with a car asking if the story really happened with him stating that it did and that was his role on Team McQueen, claiming that he was a troubleshooter. McQueen, however, tells everyone to not believe everything Mater tells them and says that he didn't win the race. Mater drives up to McQueen saying that he hopes that they didn't pay to much for an animatronic version of him and says that it's ugly. However, McQueen questions Mater's story with "Ninjas, Mater? Really?" as he takes pictures with a fan. It ends with Mater saying that if you take away it's ugliness it's a pretty good sound-alike.

Trivia

  • This deleted scene was based off the Mater's Tall Tales series.
    • This also makes the connection between Mater's Tall Tales and Cars 2 stronger.
  • Bob Cutlass appears in this scene. However he doesn't appear in Cars 2 at all.
  • When Darrell is heard talking again the subtitles say "Cutlass" instead of Darrell or Cartrip making an error.
  • Darrell states that McQueen wants to win his 3rd Piston Cup meaning McQueen only had two Piston Cups at the time during the production of the film.
  • The race would've parodied the Dinoco 400 from Cars as one of the shots is similar to it. Mater is also shown to be flying through the air sticking his tongue out just like McQueen did in the first movie.
  • The tall tale seems to have taken inspiration from Mater the Greater and Tokyo Mater as stunts and ninjas are featured in it.
  • The fighting style Mater does in the deleted scene seems to be re-used during the London fight as he does similar motions during it.
  • The scene was most likely cut as the team would've had a hard time continuing the story after the sequence ended.
  • This is the only deleted scene to be shown being storyboarded.
    • Interestingly enough the person who was storyboarding the scene was Brian Fee, who would become the director of Cars 3 6 years later.
  • This also the only deleted scene to not have a follow up on why it was cut.
