News

September 4 - LEGO Pixar: Bricktoons premiered for streaming on Disney+, featuring a Cars episode, "Trust Yer' Old Pal, Mater". It was also uploaded for free viewing on YouTube (right).
August 10 - Two new Cars-themed rides are coming to Disney World Florida, as revealed at D23 2024. One of these rides features an off-road race that is being newscasted by the RSN.^[1]
June 14 - First images of the 2025 Mainline have been found on sites such as Walmart and Icecat, revealing several new 2-packs and re-releases.
March 7 - During their 2024 Virtual Investor Presentation, Mattel announced they will soon be launching the Global Racers Cup, a cross-market storytelling series developed with Disney.^[2]

Strip "The King" Weathers is a major character in the Cars franchise. He is a 1970 Plymouth Superbird with a bright Dinoco-blue paint scheme, paying homage to the famous real-life stock car used by his voice actor and nick-namesake, Richard Petty. Introduced in Cars, the King is a more than 20-year racing veteran,^[1] having won a record-breaking seven Piston Cups – a feat matched only by his friend and colleague Lightning McQueen, the rookie sensation during Weathers' retiring season. The King would later return to the circuit as a coach in Cars 3, acting as crew chief for his nephew, Cal.

In Cars, when Darrell Cartrip and Bob Cutlass are introducing The King, Chick Hicks, and Lightning McQueen to the audience, they describe Weathers as having been "Dinoco's golden boy for years" and speculate on whether or not he will be able to pull off one last victory in the final race of his career.
